Long-Term Rental

The City of New Buffalo makes it a priority to ensure long-term rentals are safe for the well being of the community.  The intent of regulations is to have safeguards in place to protect the consumer as well as the property owner, surrounding neighbors and emergency responders. The character of residential zoning districts must also be preserved.

Long-Term rentals are not considered short-term rentals and WILL NOT be rented, advertised for rent or sub-let for a period of less than ONE YEAR (365 days).

What is required to register rental units?

All long-term residential property owners or property managers must submit their residential rental property registration.

What happens if I do not register a rental by the deadline?

Failure to register the rental unit(s) may result in penalties imposed by the City of New Buffalo, MI.
