Liability Claims

The City Clerk handles liability claims, per the City Charter, Section 14.1.

Bids

The City Clerk is responsible for advertising, receiving, opening, and reporting bids.

Chief Election Officer

The City Clerk is the Chief Elections Officer for the City – responsible for running elections consistent with the Michigan Election Law, as amended, and applicable federal requirements.

The City Clerk is the Chair of the Election Commission, which is also comprised of the City Assessor and City Attorney (City Charter, Section 2.7.)

The City Clerk is responsible for:

  • Voter Registration
  • Ballots
  • Voting Equipment
  • Absentee Voting
  • Petitions
  • Election Workers
  • Voting Precincts/ Polling Places
  • School Election Coordinating Committee
  • Candidate Fillings
  • Election-related Notices

City Seal

Per the City Charter, Section 4.6(b) the City Clerk is custodian of the City seal.

Other

The City Clerk is responsible for all other duties as assigned by the City Charter, state law, City Ordinances, resolutions of the City Council, or instructions from City Management.
