Meeting Administration
The City Clerk is responsible for ensuring that all meetings of public bodies of the City, or for which the City has an appointed representative, are conducted in a manner as prescribed by the Michigan Open Meetings Act (OMA) and the City Charter section 3.7, as amended, when called for by same (e.g. preparing, posting, and/ or publishing meeting notices, as needed, or ensuring same; creating or ensuring minutes are created as required by state law.)
The City Clerk is the Clerk of the Council (City Charter, Section 4.6, in-part).
The City Clerk presides during the organizational meeting (in May) of the City Council, until the Mayor is selected (City Charter, Section 3.15, in-part.)
The City Clerk serves as parliamentarian for the City Council.
